The Last Days of Lloyd: Portland Says Goodbye to Lloyd Center After 66 Years

Press Release

Community events will celebrate the iconic mall’s legacy before its final day on Saturday, August 8

Portland, OR – After 66 years of serving generations of Portlanders, Lloyd Center’s final week has arrived.

The iconic shopping center will close its doors for the final time at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, marking the end of one of Portland’s most recognizable landmarks. Throughout its last few days, tenants, community organizations and supporters will host a series of farewell events, giving Portlanders one last opportunity to celebrate the place where so many memories were made.

Since opening in 1960, Lloyd Center has been part of generations of Portlanders’ lives. The Last Days of Lloyd invites the community to come together one final time to celebrate those memories and say goodbye.

“This is more than the closing of a shopping mall. It’s the closing of a chapter in Portland’s history,” said Tom Kilbane, of Urban Renaissance Group. “We’re grateful for the memories Lloyd Center has created for generations of Oregonians, and we’re excited to begin writing its next chapter.”

Earlier this year, Urban Renaissance Group announced the mall would close on August 8 to prepare the property for its next chapter. The approved redevelopment plan will transform the site into a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood featuring new housing, parks, businesses, public spaces and pedestrian connections that better integrate Lloyd with the surrounding community.

The transition also reaches an important milestone today. This morning, the Portland City Council took a final procedural vote to approve the Lloyd Central City Master Plan. Today’s vote formally completes the city’s approval process for the master plan and clears the way for the Lloyd Center redevelopment to move forward.
